Veterans Day Specials and FREE stuff 2013

This was written by Kate and taken from military.com post for

October 31,2013

Every year, my Veterans Day discount post is super-popular. I hope that many of you will find it useful again this year. Not all venues have announced their plans for 2013, so I will be updating it as new information becomes available. Please share with your friends!

As always, please remember these guidelines:

  • Please be sure to contact individual locations to verify hours and restrictions.
  • If you are using a restaurant deal, please be sure to tip on the total amount of the bill before the discount. Let’s show our country’s servers that military vets do the right thing.
  • This is a nice thing that companies do for the military and I hate to see it being turned into something negative due to miscommunication or disagreements about documentation. Each business gets to make their own rules about what they consider acceptable identification in order to qualify for the promotion.

Restaurants

Applebees continues their tradition of offering free meals to veterans and active duty servicemembers. This offer is available only on Monday, 11 November 2013 during regular business hours. Beverages and gratuities are not included. Acceptable identification card includes DoD-issued uniformed services ID cards, DoD-issued retired ID cards, current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), veterans organization card (such as American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars), DD214, commendation or citation, picture of veteran in uniform.

Bar Louie is offering a free meal, up to a $12 value on either Sunday, 10 November 2013 or Monday, 11 November 2013. The press release mentioned that valid ID is required, but it doesn’t specify what sort of ID is acceptable.

Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse is offering a free meal to veterans on Monday, 11 November 2013. I can’t find this offer on their website, but it is published at their Facebook page. The food looks pretty yummy, too. I’ve never heard of Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse, but apparently they are based in New Jersey and spread out across the US.

Golden Corral may be the big granddaddy of all Veterans Day deals. They have offered free meals to Veterans for the last 12 years, including over 375,000 meals in 2012. Also in 2012, Golden Corral and their guests collected over one million dollars for the Disabled American Veterans.

For 2013, Golden Corral is again offering free meals to all veterans on Monday, 11 November 2013 from 4 pm to 9 pm. Families are welcome to dine at the regular price. There are no take-outs available for this offer. No identification is required for the veteran.

Max & Erma’s is offering a free Best Cheeseburger in America Combo Meal including soup or salad and a fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie. The picture looks fabulous! Identification is required, but the type of identification isn’t listed on the advertisement. This offer is good on Monday, 11 November 2013.

McCormick and Schmick’s offers a free meal to veterans on Sunday, 10 November 2013. I’ve heard this restaurant is fabulous…maybe one day we’ll be able to take advantage of this deal. The offer includes a free meal from a limited menu. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Red Robin is offering a free Tavern Double burger with bottomless fries on Monday, 11 November 2013. This offer is available to veterans or active duty folks. Acceptable identification includes “military ID, proof of service or who are in military uniform.”

Shoney’s is offering a free All-American Burger to veterans on Monday, 11 November 2013. Identification is required but the acceptable types of identification are not specified. This offer does not include tax, tip or beverage. Not valid with any other offers and only for dining in the restaurant. One offer per veteran.

Texas Roadhouse is offering a free lunch to active duty and veterans on Monday, 11 November 2013. There will be a special 10 item menu available from 11 am to 2 pm, plus a choice of any Coca-Cola product, sweet tea/ice tea or coffee. Proof of service includes military or VA card, or discharge papers.

TGIFridays is offering a free lunch, from a selected menu, to veterans and active duty military members on Monday, 11 November 2013. This deal is available from 11 am to 2 pm. Check with your local restaurant for participation and details. Proof of military service is required, though valid proof is not listed. Beverages are not included unless an eligible lunch combo is ordered.

Travel Centers of America, who operate both the TA and Petro branded stopping centers, are offering a free meal, up to $15 value, to veterans who hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This offer is available on Monday, 11 November 2013. Acceptable identification includes a DoD Issued Retired identification card, DD214, veterans organization card, photo in uniform.

Travel and Recreation

SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment – Veterans and current servicemembers can get 50% off single-day admission tickets (off the front gate price) through Nov.11, 2013. Retailers

Grace for Vets organizes individual car washes from around the world to offer free car washes to veterans and servicemembers on 11 November 2013. I think this is so cool because it is international! It’s also a little different…I would never have thought of a car wash offering a Veterans Day deal.

Also on Monday, 11 November 2013, veterans can get a free haircut or pick up a card for a future haircut. The gift cards are valid until 31 December 2013. I love how this involves non-veterans in the act of honoring veterans, and spreads the value out beyond the single day.
